Elegies

The Elegies began as an homage to my deceased mother. The woman in the earth is a reminder of her burial. The figure becomes part of the ground, making both a literal and metaphorical reference—being absorbed into the earth, a comforting fear, a death memory. As time passed, the sky, clouds, and trees became more dominant imagery and the issue of losing pieces of the self became the focus.
